Decorating Your Bedroom

We spend one third of our life sleeping, and the quality of our sleep affects our health and daily life. If you implement these bedroom decorating tips, you’re guaranteed to wake up on the right side of the bed.

Who hasn’t experienced the exhaustion following a bad night’s sleep? Most people complain about insufficient sleep and fatigue throughout the day. Considering our stressful modern lifestyle, our physical and mental health is dependent on good sleep. A pleasant bedroom is imperative for you to truly rest, get up nice and fresh and be your best throughout the day, the kind of room that lets you doze off, worry-free.

We created the following walkthrough that will help you design the perfect bedroom for a good, healthy night’s sleep.

Create balance and harmony

For a truly deep slumber, it’s important to keep your bedroom atmosphere harmonious and balanced. Place your bed with the headboard facing the fall, as far away from doors and windows as possible. If your bed doesn’t have a headboard, you can construct a drywall niche and push the bed up to it, to create an alternative headboard. It’s not only decorative – a drywall niche can help reduce noise levels. Tambour’s metal board, for instance, is used as an acoustic wall due to its noise proofing qualities.

Keep it dark for bedtime

Keep lighting soft and dim to create a pleasant pre-sleep atmosphere and help you transition from the hustle and bustle of the day to the peaceful calm of night. Place a nightlight by your bed so you can enjoy a good book before you doze off without having to get up and turn off the main light. Fit your bedroom windows with dark curtains, or install shutters, in order to keep out bright sunlight in the early hours of the morning.

Organized room, peaceful sleep

The quality of our sleep is affected by many factors, one of which is disorder. Even if you tuck your mess away under the bed, it would still be there, waiting, and you know it. If you want to create a soothing atmosphere, tidy up and sort out every item in your bedroom. Remove anything you don’t need in there with you and try to create as spacious a room as possible. Before you turn in, shut all drawers and closet doors, for a calm, distraction-free nighttime experience.

Soothing colors for peaceful slumber

One of the easiest ways to achieve a calm, sleep-inducing atmosphere is using the right colors. In order to create a neutral and balanced space, use a combination of cool and warm colors when designing your bedroom. Soft purples, blues and peach are bedroom favorites.

Get those electronics out of the room

Don’t get us wrong – we get how much you like watching TV in bed, checking your email before closing your eyes or staying up to date with everything, all the time. But trust us on this one – electronics are destroying your sleep. If you absolutely must have a television in the bedroom you can hide it inside a well-placed closet, but when it comes to laptops, smartphones and tablets, just try to keep them out of the bedroom.

Use pleasant scents

Like all other senses, smell has a lot to do with how well we sleep. Fresh, clean sheets will help you fall asleep faster and make your slumber deeper. Try to wash your sheets at least once a week, and use a gentle fabric softener with long lasting, unobtrusive smell. You can even exchange it for rose water, known for their delicate scent and purifying qualities, and sink deep into the bed.

Design for you

In addition to these great tips, it’s important to stay true to your taste when designing your bedroom, so you will enjoy an atmosphere tailored exactly to your needs. Choose colors that soothe you, and introduce life and liveliness using home styling accessories that don’t interfere with the quality of your sleep, like curtains, printed throw pillows and pictures in soothing colors.
